For the past 12 years, Alan has been the consumer advocate (co-author), and associate investigator with the Active Surveillance Psycho-Oncology Study Group at Peter MacCallum. This group created an online Decision Aid called NAVIGATE for men with low-risk prostate cancer and their partners. This in turn led to a randomised control trial around Australia and is now progressing into the implementation phase. In 2019, Alan received the Victorian Minister for Health Award for Outstanding Achievement by a Volunteer – Improving Public Healthcare. Alan was invited, as consumer advocate, to deliver two presentations at the Multi-National Association Survivorship in Cancer Care conference at Nara, Japan in June 2023. In September 2023 he presented at the Continence Foundation Australia’s, State Advisory Committee Education Day, on the psycho-social impact of prostate cancer treatment on men and their partners.
