Jen Ervin is an early-career social epidemiologist based at the Social Equity Research Centre at RMIT University. She holds a Master of Public Health and a PhD in Social Epidemiology from The University of Melbourne. Her research focuses on gender (in)equality, unpaid caregiving, employment conditions, gender norms and their impacts on mental health. Through rigorous epidemiological approaches, Jen’s work seeks to quantify the consequences of the structural and social drivers of gender inequality -generating evidence to bring overdue attention to these issues and inform policy responses. She has also contributed to research and policy work on sex and gender in health and clinical guidelines. Before moving into academia, Jen worked as a clinical veterinarian and spent more than a decade in a technical consultancy role in the corporate sector, experiences that inform her interdisciplinary perspective on health, work and social systems.
