25UOT38, TAS, Australia
Dr Lieke Scheepers is an epidemiologist with the Musculoskeletal Health and Environmental Health group at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research in Hobart, Tasmania. Her research has two main focuses: investigating bone health in children by studying factors such as air pollution and gut microbiome composition, and examining the broader effects of environmental exposures on early-life health.
As part of this work, she co-leads the Early Life Follow-up (ELF) stream of the Hazelwood Health Study, which assesses the health impacts of the mine fire in Victoria. Lieke’s research is multidisciplinary and population-based, involving collaboration across several international birth cohorts in the Netherlands, Denmark, England, and Australia. She previously held academic roles at the University of Gothenburg and Maastricht University and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for several years.
Dr Scheepers is honoured to present as a guest speaker at the ANZBMS conference, supported by the Jack Martin Travel Grant, recognising her significant contributions to bone health research.
